History of the Department
The Department of Studies in Urdu was established in 1974. During the past three decades, it has immensely contributed to the development of Urdu literature through its research programmes, seminars, publications and research papers laying special emphasis on regional literature. The Department has always been responsive to the current academic needs and as a result of which, during 2002-07, it introduced special papers in Script Writing, Urdu Journalism, Computer Studies, Translation of Literature, Creative Writing and Comparative Study of Urdu and Kannada Literature which are of contemporary relevance and also give vocational leverage to the course. Emphasis has been laid on the regional study of Urdu literature in the research programmes of the Department. Vision & Mission: to inculcate positive human values through the study of literature. to create awareness of our valuable & rich literary heritage . to give an insight in to the unity of mankind on emotional level. to lay stress on the cultural unification of countrymen in the realm of Urdu. to work towards amalgamation of the traditional with that of modern through literature. to train students to strike a balance between pleasure and purpose

E. Eligibility :

M.A. in Urdu: Graduates who have secured 40% in the aggregate of all subjects and 50% marks in the cognate subject in the qualifying University examinations are eligible to apply. Candidates with B.A./B.Sc./B.Com. Degree are eligible to apply provided they have scored 55% in the Language concerned in the degree course.

Diploma in Urdu: Course open to all including foreign nationals. Minimum educational qualification essential for admission to the course is matriculation, preference being given to
